local sea turtle

We had a little beach cookout with the kids on President's Day. There was a turtle sort of landlocked in the tidepools. It seemed like he was having a little break, resting and munching away at algae in the warm water, waiting for the tide to return and take him back out. Anyway I was able to get close.

CC on the photography and photoshop most welcome. Camera is my Canon S3IS. I am awaiting hardware in the mail to properly calibrate my monitor, so I'd also like to know how these look to you with well calibrated displays.

My six year old definitely counts as wildlife too :D He is holding a sea slug.

What a great opportunity to get good photos of the turtle. I must say that the one of the two children with the turtle is my favorite because it shows scale.

Beautiful Honu! Looks pretty young by the lack of scars/brilliant color on the shell. Terrific close-up of its head. thumb.gif

giving you a bit of the evil eye....
Yes, actually I photoshopped the eye separately in that one to show the iris and pupil like I remembered. At the time, the feeling of the turtle's gaze was not negative, but like a resigned and very sober "yeah, I'm basically helpless right now, so it would be pretty lame for you to touch or harrass me..."

    Which of course I didn't :D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
