Playing around with natural light shots of these. I just love the colours of this azalea.

I love those colours too Brian. Were those taken with your MP-E. I tried to take some water droplets from the tap with the MP-E but achieved absolutely nothing.

    Thanks Bob and Don :)

These were a bit of an experiment using natural light with the MPE-65 lens :)

Nice photo's Brian. I really like the colours
Just a quick question when you are taking photos of the insects are most of your shots stacked or just a single frame?

re focus stacking on bugs- it depends on the bug and what magnification I'm using. I don't always stack and in many cases you can't because the bug is moving around too much. At a guess I'd say I now stack about 50% of my bug shots. The main reason I do this, is I like good detail in bug shots which is lost if I use too small an aperture because of diffraction softening so I prefer say doing a 2 shot focus stack to taking a shot at a 1 stop smaller aperture. This situation becomes much worse when using higher magnifications than 1:1, so I'm more likely to use focus stacking when shooting above 1:1.
I should add focus stacking is not a necessity, It's just a tool I use to achieve the results I want. For example Dalantech who posts here frequently takes excellent shots with a different style to me without focus stacking.
Just a case of doing what you need to to achieve the result you want.

    Brian,

Thanks for all the macro tutorial work. I'm getting ready to start experimenting.

    As always, beautiful images.

Quick question, do you apply the water? Spray bottle? Tap water?

    Thanks,

    John

    Thanks :)

Normally the dewdrop/raindrop shots I do are totally natural drops but I have used a water mister every now and then :).

I forget that there is such a thing as naturally occuring dew. Living here in the desert southwest I'll have to make my own.
