Unfortunately this place may not be long for it. Walmart wants to build on this property, which would require the demolition of the drive in, which easily could be reopened (it's only been closed since the end of the 06 season). (For more info on that, go here:
http://members.bluefrog.com/ttroidl/) We have decided to begin photographing closed Drive ins, and other vintage properties that will likely be just memories soon. This is the beginning:

Nice pictures for the history book. I've never seen a closed drive in reopen. It is nice to have some pictures of "the good old days."

There is hope for the Grandview-this drive in closed in 1996 and reopened in 2006 or 2007: http://www.twinhiwaydrivein.com/ That's a long time for something to sit outside with no care-the Grandview has only been closed for one year really, since it operated for the 2006 season. The Van Buren I also photographped supposedly closed down sometime in the 90's as well, and it was certainly in rough shape (we didn't walk onto the property to view the screen, but judging from the back, it's probably not too good). I checked out the Friends of Grandview site and it's screen only has one damaged panel. I guess time will tell! I am thinking of getting a GPS so we can start hunting down the many other closed Drive-Ins before they are demolished. They used a lot of land and developments are closing in on them-it's only a matter of time before they are worth more as a housing development....

All in the name of "Walmart" hu?
I'd love to know the statistics as to how many children were conceived at drive-ins over the decades :oogle

Good for the archives and memories Jim, your right when you say it won't be long and people wont remember what a Drive In even was.

    Thanks for sharing thumb.gif .... Skippy :D
