Lightroom and loading RAW (nef) files

I'm noticing that when i import RAW (or nikon NEF) files to lightroom, initially they look great... however when i click on the image it says "generating preview", etc. and when it loads everything, the colors get a bit dull.

Why would lightroom display one type of color initially and display different colors once the file actually loads 100%?

I have everything set to sRGB as I initially had issues with lightroom and photoshop displaying different color profiles (that problem is now fixed).

The initial view is the JPEG preview in the RAW file itself, created using the in-camera settings (so if you have sRGB specified, it will be sharpened and "punchy" with the colors).

The updated color scheme is Lightroom's interpretation of the RAW data using the settings and testing that Thomas Knoll did with camera profiling. It has different settings than the in-camera JPEG does. It's gonna be less saturated and less sharpened than the built-in JPEG because of the way RAW is.
