Dogwood Varieties

I've always loved dogwood trees. When I was a kid I'd go out in the woods and dig little ones up (OK I've had therapy since then) and my mom planted them in her yard. Over the years my folks house came to look like a dogwood and azalia garden. Absolutely beautiful in the spring.

Here are some images of different varieties of dogwood blooms.

Pacific Dogwood (note the flowers have six bracts rather than four like regular flowering dogwood found back east)

Dwarf Dogwood (aka Canadian Dogwood)

Thanks, Awais. That fourth shot was taken on my first outing with a new Nikon 105mm, f2.8 VR macro lens. The shot was taken handheld in very low light with the following settings: 1/20s f/16.0 at 105.0mm iso320.

The VR feature has almost made my tripod obsolete wings.gif .

Thanks, Skippy. The pink blooms usually fade quickly after they open. The tree where I captured this image was beside a tall buiding where it was shaded from the afternoon sun. One of the darkest pink dogwoods I've ever seen. The dwarf dogwood are the only ones we have in Alaska :(:

Those are some nice shots. I especially like the colors and composition in the first one.
