converting to black and white

Hello, i am new to Dgrin and also still pretty new to photography, well at least "professional Photography" i want to photograph children. I have a Nikon D40 digital SLR and i shoot in color but i want to convert the photos to Black and white. its seems like when i do this in photoshop, its more gray, black and little white. it doesn't seem sharp to me. i have seen some great black and white photography and mine look nothing like this. they always look dull. anyy suggestions????????:wink

    Hi Romina,

    I'm moving this thread to the Finishing School forum. Here's a good tutorial on the subject. There are also many threads on Dgrin that discuss B&W conversion, which you can find by using the search function on the main navigation bar.
