Sad to see them in captivity, but, as far as enclosures go, i think they've got it pretty good! They look content, though! A little tricky to get the WB right due to the soduim vapor lights!

Thanks! So do I! They were way up on the rocks in the enclosure... tough to shoot, lots and branches and tree stumps in the way! It's a nice enclosure, really! They have plenty of hiding places if they want to get away from the gawking tourists! :D

I like the Biodome, and your shots, but have heard bad things about the state of the Lynxes and their treatment their. These look better than the one I say last June.

Well, I'm all for wildlife staying wild, but i hadn't heard anything bad about the Biodome. I've only been there a few times. These two looked pretty happy though, but i'm sure they would have prefered being free! Of course with this winter's heavy snow fall, they are probably better off in captivity!:D

I guess it depends on which local person you talk to.

    This is way OT, but:

I work at a Museum with live animals that did include Bobcats and Mountain lions, until they died of old age. Locking a cat out of its den to keep it on display is not nice at all the the cat or any other animal.

They should be able to get out of sight and have down time on thier own terms. This can lead to some of the pacing behavior that can be so disturbing for patrons to see.

I agree with you... The enclosure here has a kind of "mini-canyon" way up at the top. When the cats are up in there, you hardly see them. It took us a while to actually spot them up there and a few minutes to show other patrons where they were as well. I find they can really hide if they feel like it. So, as far as this issue is concerned, i've certainly seen far worse enclosure in other zoos, and in the times i've visited the Biodome, have never seen any animals exhibiting the behavior you've mentioned, and that i've certainly seen in older zoos with small, cage-like enclosures! I also find that sad! :cry

I hope i haven't offended anyone in taking pictures of captive animals! They were just so beautiful, i couldn't help it! I would of course MUCH preferred to have caught these on film in their natural habitat, but that's not likely to happen in the Montreal area!
