This weekend we went to Hearst Castle. We did a night tour and then a day tour. There was no flash photography so taking pictures was really tough. Only a few of the night shots came out. No tripod. This 1st one is my favorite.

I've seen (and taken) a lot of HC pictures. These are especially nice captures. I am particularly impressed with the evening shots. Very nice.

Hearst Castle is the former vacation spot/home/ranch for the late William Randolph Hearst is located in San Simeon, CA about 1/2 way between LA and SF off PCH.

I don't think I've seen many night or sunset shots of Hearst Castle, and I must say you've done an excellent job! thumb.gif

thanks. The conversion worked well. Just cranked on the contrast and sharpness to extreme levels.

no tripods, what will they say about a monopole?

I've used a monopod on a day tour a few years back. Their main concern is camera flash, which causes the stuff they try to preserve fade more quickly. A tripod would be too cumbersome and can trip up people.

The monopod would have been great. I didn't think about that. I think I could have stepped down my iso level at least one level with a monopod. I was trying to find elbow rests the whole tour!

is your movement restricted?..are you in a single file line going only were told to go?
its a tour, so can you wander about after the tour?

i read that the garden tour is by busing...eek7.gif that does not seem like it sounds too great...? or again can you wander?

kinda pricy on the tickets eh? why? what makes it so pricy?

    thanks for any info!

Aaron, you are with a guide the whole tour and you do have to stay with the group

When you see the grounds you will see that this place is pristine, and well maintained and staffed. Without your fees, they could not stay open. As it is, it was a private mansion donated to the State of California. There is total beauty surrounding the place.

There is no unlimited free wandering time. So you only have a 2-3 min to take your shots at each tour stop.

Personally I think the night tour was best. It takes highlights from all the other tours and the if you pick the one that occurs near sunset then the place looks fabulous.
