The Golden Pavilion, Kinkakuji, is a very famous site of Japan since it sticks out amongst the scenery. We visited it on March 8th, 2008. All photos were taken with my Rebel XTi with the Canon 24-105 f4/L lens.

On a wind free day you would have a mirror like reflection.

In Japan it is not uncommon to see trees held up by all sorts of contraptions.

    Hey, Cat!

I haven't been able to comment on individual photos from your trip like I'd hoped, but I was looking through them as you posted. This series is very cool, and it looks like you had a good time. Too bad that for #3 it wasn't wind-free... now you just have an excuse to go back in the future!

(PS -- I'm curious about the story behind #6)

    Hi Al!!

I'm sure my taking just over 2,000 in under 10 days didn't help w/ not being able to comment easily as I kept uploading more and more! I'm glad though that you have been able to look at them as I get them up :)

#6 - basically instead of taking a fountain and throwing coins in it like we do here... they have several Buddhist figures / symbols and they throw coins at them (ideally trying to get in the silver bowl you see here in this photo) in the theory that if they make it in the bowl when they throw their coins that their wish will come true. Keep in mind though that you're throwing a good several feet away...

This picture is my friend Jenna trying to get some coins to fall in the pot so you can see how far away she is for reference.
