Will sigmas HSM work on other nikons that are not D40, D40x, D60?

So I was reading over the HSM lenses that Sigma offers for the nikons that do not have the focusing feature in the body and thier qoute says "If the camera body does not support HSM, auto focus will not be available." Does this mean that other nikons do not support HSM? or will these lenses work on all nikons?

Thanks for any clarification.

There are some older film bodies that support AF but don't support the HSM ability. AFAIK, all Nikon digibods will support HSM.

    I see...thanks for the help!

I don't use Nikons but this is how I understand it.
All current Nikon's have a AF motor built into the body except the D40/D40x/D60.

So if the lens has an AF motor built into the lens itself, like HSM in Sigma's, it will work with all Nikon bodies. If the lens is designed to uses the AF motor from the camera's body (and hence does not have an AF motor built into the lens) then it will not AF with D40/D40x/D60 since they do not have an AF motor built into the body.

Hence many makers like Sigma and Tamron are putting AF motors into the lens now so that it will work with the D40/D40x/D60.

Yup, I understand all of that...I just did not know if there was some sort of software written into the Nikon cameras that auto foucs in the body that would not support the HSM functionality...but they will work on any nikon digi cam, which is what I wanted to know. Thanks.

Thanks, but my bet is that is out dated, since the the d3 and d300 are not on there...

I have my answer...if a mod wants to close this that is fine with me.
