Sharpening & noise reduction in LAB

I was digging around and found something I think is really great. It's a Dan Margulis article available online about using LAB for noise reduction, sharpening, and increasing saturation. Dan's understanding of these topics has deepened since he wrote his book and since I took his course. This is a short article and it's not challenging to extract the basic techniques from it.

Very interesting topic, that was not covered in his book. (The dust and scratches part) Thanks for the link!

Dan's tutorial and examples stand on their own. I could reiterate them, but I don't think I could do as well as Dan did. This article isn't challenging compared to his book. I'm not sure I can make it any more accessable.
Neverheless, Sid, I set out to do that, and learned something unexpected instead. (Dont' you hate it when that happens? I made that into a tutorial and posted it here.
I'm going to contact Dan and ask him about this. I think the result will be interesting. I'll post it here.

There is kind of a fine line between being Dan's apostle here and plagiarizing him. But I'll consult Dan on the topic and do my best. In the meantime tell me what you think of the case study I already did.
