I can't believe the bride looked at your pictures before hand and understood your style.

I'd take her opinion for what it's worth, which is nothing since she paid nothing for the photography.
Regarding "Artsy fartsy" and "plain Jane", they live in Maryland they can't be that out of touch, can they? If that's the case I definitely won't be moving back!
As far as the friend involved, if the bride didn't want photography in the first place and isn't paying anything for it then it should be like water under the bridge between them and she should keep her mouth shut.
