I am starting out fresh, with a new hobby. I do a good bit of hiking and outdoor what not. I have been studing for the last 3+ weeks. Does any body have any good pointers? I want/need something with some personal room as well as camera gear. The other problem is that I am big guy 54 inch sholder. So I do not want something that feels like it will pull me in two. My equipment is limited now 1 digital 1 film several pieces of glass (mainly for the old Pentax K 1000) , but it does not all have to travel with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. B.J.

BJ check out the tamrac bags. I use the expeditioner7 which is kind of medium sized. It fits my 40d and all my gear listed in my siggy plus it also fits my 6'-3" 270lb shoulders just fine.

The Expedition 7 is a great bag, but huge & all devoted to camera gear (I have one). Perhaps something like the Lowepro Orion, Tamrac Adventure 7, or ThinkTank Rotation360 (their refined version of the Orion--AFAIK same designer). Those all have a camera section at the bottom with a general pack space at the top.

I recently bought a LowePro Flipside backpack. It opens towards
your back so nobody can take out gear while carrying it. I wrote
a short review of the bag here:
