For Sale: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens

Price: $925.00 USD via PayPal
(price includes PayPal fees and UPS Ground to CONUS)

Sale Conditions: PayPal transaction must be eligible for Buyer/Seller Protection

I purchased this lens from Amazon.com on June 12, 2006. The lens is in perfect working condition, hood has some minor "photo bag rash". The lens comes with original box (UPC code was removed for the rebate purposes), soft pouch, manual and USA warranty card.

I am selling it since I no longer need 2.8 speed -- I am making a switch to f4.0 lenses.

There's a tiny speckle visible on the front of the lens (it's been there for as long as I can remember probably from the factory) to my knowledge it never affected lens performance, nevertheless I wanted you to know about it before hand:

Nice lens, which f/4 are you planning on moving to?

I already did actually -- 5d/24-105 combo. So far I really like it. I might regret selling off all of my 2.8 L's but I just need to cut down on the traveling weight.

This lens in particular ... I wasn't planning on letting it go because in comparison with 24-105 it does have the following advantages (besides the 2.8):

    1) it's hood coverage is all the way through it's range (from 24 to 70) whilst 24-105's only covers 24mm
    2) it's focusing distance is much closer than 24-105's
    3) I can definitely see that the focusing speed of 24-105 is slower than 24-70 (on 20d, 5d -- in low light conditions)
    4) 24-105 hood extends with the lens while 24-70's hood stays in one place (24-70 extends inside the hood)

The biggest disadvantage of 24-70 for me is it's weight due to the type of photography that I am after.

I actually did the same. I sold my 24-70 f/2.8L to help buy my 5D / 24-105 combo, but since I also picked up a 1d mark II I'm thinking the 24-70 might suit me better (portait / sports).. If I could afford some primes I would definatly keep my 24-105 as a walk around, but since this is a hobbie, I shouldn't spend more then I already have. I might put up my 24-105 for sale this weekend, and if it sells quick I should be contacting you.

    Thanks
    Rafael S.

Yes 24-70 is an awesome match with a crop sensor ... it's a bit too short on a FF.

I've been really contemplating selling my 24-105 f4/L (which I LOVE) for this lens just because lately I've found myself really longing for closer range 2.8 abilities for my low light shots... my 70-200 f2.8 is sometimes way too zoomed in for when I need the faster lens...

oh the debate... I need to contemplate this further, as your price is really good...

The difference in close focusing ability of this lens in comparison with 24-105 is noticeable -- If I could have both I would but one of them must go.

I was worried that I would get back here only to find that it was sold ... bowdown.gif I couldn't wait to say that:

The sale is off -- I am keeping this baby.

I just took this lens for a photo op in a low light/flash type environment and it just blew me away. I just can't part with the almost 3D like images it produces time after time.

Sure it weighs like a brick but hopefully when I get a 1D it will balance nicer on it.

Thanks to all that inquired and special thanks to all that didn't buy it :D -- I'd be kicking myself later for letting it go.
