Hey,

Hello people.

I am Rafi and I'm from Brooklyn,NY. I am 17 Years old,
my dreams are to be a photographer. I want to start
taking pictures seriously now but to do that I need a clean
professional website. I have a blog now but it is unsafe (picture stealers)
and doesn't let me do much.

I have a couple questions
though, let me begin:

I'm not 18 so I already guess that I cannot sell my pictures CORRECT?
If so can my parent/guardian put it in their name so that I can still
own a professional website and promote my new (young) career?

That was the most confusing document I have read in
my life. But yeah when I buy the membership I will fill
    that out.

I will have a lot more questions when I sign
up but for now I would like to know about the
templates. Is there a template that is remotely
close to this one Judys Portraits?
That is the site of someone I kinda know
and I really like the simplicity.

Also does a costumer who wants to order
prints have to sign in or anything like that?

    We have nearly unlimited customizing.

If you'd like to see some of the possibilities, have a look here: http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1801307 for some really well done SmugMug sites!

Here's the direct link to the customizing forum: http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31 and here's a great thread to start out with, for your customization needs: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=52812.

Tell me if this is the right place for this:

I need a very simple webiste with
    my info,portfolio,and most important
to have galleries (password protected) for
each client to log into and pick their photos.

Welcome, Take a look at my site, www.longislandimage.smugmug.com
It certainly is a work in progress but, I have easily created pages and links ,
Faq's ,products ,about us, and photo edits, Plus I can sell pictures and products thru galleries that I choose to either password protect or leave open to the public. I set my prices and SmugMug thru EZ prints does the rest, I have found some of the most knowledgeable and helpful people on this site who have guided me many times when I have had a question, I suggest you go for it. After many years of having a website elsewhere. I have found SM to be well worth the price
    Good Luck

    One more question (lol)

If I create a book with Blurb can I sell it
using the Smugmug shopping cart instead of
having to add another cart (like google checkout)?

rolleyes1.gif Welcome to US Tax documents. That one is just thetip of the iceberg, wait 'till you get into the real meat of tax forms. :D

Customers only fill in a typical web shopping cart form with shipping & CC info.

Sorry I ask a lot of questions but... my camera is in
    for repairs.

If I shoot something like an event such as a chinese auction
and later I wish to sell the photos to the auction host, Do
I need model release forms from the entire crowd? deal.gif

I'm guessing not but I don't understand why, especially if
they will use it for promotion.

    Sorry.

I understand that you need a model release to sell a picture
(unless you are selling it to the model).

If you shoot a wedding and you make a gallery
with a password for the client only, le'ts say
the client gives the password to other people
so they can order too, wouldn't that be selling
for profit and you would need a release?

Model releases - which I know nothing about - are an entirely different discussion. You should be able to find a lot of discussions about it here on Digital Grin, like here, or via Google.

This is confusing! Good thing I don't have 600USD in profit (barely there), then they'll send me another confusing form...

I am not a big fan of taxes and the paperwork that follows it, But if you are paying taxes then you are making money as a photographer and that is a wonderful thing
