I can't verify the exact lenses I have right at the moment, but I know I have a Nikon SLR (a film camera) at home with a Nikon lens and another brand (I thinkTamron) lens that I used with it. I haven't used it in years as I started to go with digital out of convenience.

I'm just wondering, do all lenses that worked with an old fasioned Nikon SLR work with a Nikon DSLR in general?

Trying to decide whether I should get a kit lens or just the body for now...

Thank you!

    Thank you!

All your old lenses should work fine with the D80.

Take a look at this chart:

    http://www.aiconversions.com/compatibilitytable.htm

Basically stay away from the pre-AI lenses and you should be fairly OK.

This one may or may not be easier to follow than Ziggy's, which I'm stuffing in my bookmarks as well :D Never hurts to have more than one.

Thanks everyone, this is helpful. Been so busy have not been able to take a good look at everything, but I did see quickly that the slr I have is the n2000. I don't see it on some of the sites recommended though but I will do further research and figure out the lens types!

So I got my d80 and love it! From the site http://aiconversion.com/ that was recommended I found out I have an AI-S lens that works but it does not meter. I put it in manual mode and I shot some frames but they came out black, any idea why?

It is a nikor 50mm f 1.8 lens from a film Nikon slr...
