This is great! I love the concept! You executed it brilliantly. I really enjoyed looking at each child's reaction, and then felt for the poor mom and dad and wished that they could get a moment to themselves.iloveyou.gif

As to the processing- I like it! I have no idea if you met your goal, but it looks good to me!:D

I'm actually kind of torn on this one. headscratch.gif I love the subject - posing is excellent and the expressions priceless. I also like the processing - great execution of the technique. The subject plus the processing is what I'm struggling with. I see this technique being more appropriate for grittier subjects. However, I have a feeling that if I revisit this later, it will have grown me. :D

I also love the shot, both for the theme/idea and for the processing.

I second the request for a pointer/tutorial on the processing.

The technique is largely to the interpretation of the photographer (and Dave's own technique is unknown), but here is one interpretation.

    The Dave Hill Look

It is very convincing, and oddly easy. I LOVE your execution. After reading this tutorial I have been inspired to try it myself. I would be interested in hearing how you set the shot up, make-up, posing, and how you lit your subjects. Also, did you use the above technique, or did you come up with your own?

This technique has been beat to death over in the Flicker forums here.

You did a great job shatch. And this kind of pp is right up your alley since you use light and aren't scared to experiment. Allot of ppl try to emulate this w/ Ps only. And they all fall short. DH uses an insane ammount of light.

BTW DH's blog states he spends 9+ hours a day in PP. So even w/ all the lighting, it's still a beast to match his look.

Thank you all for the kind comments. When I get home tonight, if I have time and the wife isn't in labor, I'll put together the original file and the settings I used to get this photo. I'll start a new thread where we can all submit our "Dave Hill" photos. Any recommendations where I should start the post? People? Technique? Finishing School?

It sounds like we'll be seeing some great baby shots in the near future. The thread sounds like a great idea. Although a lot of technique applies, I think Finishing School is the best fit. Looking forward to the tutorial.

Let me suggest a thread in Finishing School for discussing the technique itself and a separate thread in People for people shots done with that technique. Does that make sense?

    Bill,

Doesn't look like it. There was a sketchy one about a year ago. However, a Google search returned hundreds of hits on other sites, so there's lots of info out there. Maybe you could start a new thread once you master the technique. :D
