Nice concept well shot. Comps off though. To centered, too much black. Needs cropping to a Rule of thirds composition and over all a bit tighter on the subject. He seems lost there.

    Thanks Don,

I am wondering about the compostion, the idea in my mind is that he is alone in his own little world and the black area all around him emphasises that. i purposely did not crop the shot to try and help acheive that feeling.

In reality he is surrounded by other kids and parents and for me it was a bonus that no one else appears on this photo.

Or do you think the rule should apply, no matter what?

    thanks,
    Carl

Photography rules are not like the laws of physics; you can break them at will, though you ought to have a clear goal in mind for doing so. I tend to agree with Don's comments, but if you are happy with it the way it is, then just ignore us.

You are welcome. And yes Rules can be broken. But to me, in this case seems overdone. The minimum to get the idea across is also good.

Hope I can remember that last part as yet another fine photography rule.

I like your concept and it would be fun trying to get it in various ways like
