Took these at butterfly house on anglesey. really strugled with focusing, every time got focus on eyes they moved slightly as frame was taken. only got less than 20 shots in focus on eyes out of 232 frames :cry .
natural light low used, iso 400 to reduce amount of flash needed.
managed to stack 3 of these shots ok.

I think there's more than have a bug in focus. There were many occasions when shooting insects with well suported camera and acurate focus I got blury shots of insect or part of it (like wings, legs, tentacles) but it was motion blur (not DOF for sure) as if bug was startled by shutter release noise, on alert to disappear as fast as possible and finaly decide to stay. :D

    Great pictures! thumb.gif

    Those are quite lovely! :D
These remind me of my friend however because she's deathly afraid of butterfliesrolleyes1.gif and no joke about that at all!

Wonderful closeups- esp like the first 2 shots - assume #2 is one of the stacked ones- the stack worked well.

#2 and #5 are my favourites, they all turned out nicely! I wonder if the blurring you're mentioning relates to the preflash being discussed in the other thread? As was said there, manual flash can help a lot with extremely jittery subjects.

thanks for the comments, yes brian #2 was stacked from 3 frames out of 5 taken, disgarded last 2.
i did try manual flash on some shots, i think part of the problem was a constant breeze from the heater fans nearby.
will just have to go back again to practise.

Wow they look great. I know what you mean about taking a bunch of shots, I took 45 of a dragonfly yesterday and 10 where usable. Cheers.....J
