Today I took a few shots of my younger sister, Destiny. I am still very new to photography/photoshop, so bare with me. I kinda feel like I over-edited them.

C&C is welcome.

What a cutie! I think your compositions are fine, but some of your images have a strange color and most of them have blowouts. Here's a little edit I did to one. I couldn't fix the blowouts (you blew the red channel on her face just slightly), but I adjusted the color. I also brightened it up a bit. I'll take it down if you want. :)

They have great potential!!! I'd like to see your originals...they all do look a bit red...did you do that in PS?

You should crop out the door in #5 too...i love that shot otherwise! It has personality and is unique!

A lot of them could use a screen layer at 50% or so to brighten them up. Play around w/ either the saturation and remove the red/orange, or, I think in Elements there's a remove color cast thing in one of the menus.

ctrl l to get to the level screen, pull the sliders into where the information starts.

    or

ctrl shift levels to do it automatically. It actually does all three channels indepenantly, so will tend to pull out any color cast as well.

Get used to thes commands, you can use them all the time, or at least I do.

Well here I go swimming upstream again. I like the exposure level of the originals better than the edits :D In fact for the backlit shot under the tree, I would consider dropping the darks a bit more, not lightening. Go figure.

Another example, cropping out the door -- you could, yet there is a certain symbolism in a doorway that goes well with the off-in-the-distance expression. Eliminating it weakens the pic for me. It looks like it could use a little sharper focus at the eyes, but i have no prob with the composition.

On the other hand, #5 works well centered, and looks like a winner. Do you have any more of that pose, with less of a smile?

3&4 look blown out a bit
