It totally varies for me, and I have no set number. Anywhere between 25 and 40 for a family session and 30-60 for a senior session. It really depends on how many different poses/locations we have.
just portraits of a 2 year old, 5 year old and a few family portraits. No special reasons...
also, i have a wedding coming up, so would like to know your thoughts on that one too!

Well the best 2 or 3 pics of each pose or change in background is what I'd show. More if you feel strongly about some, less if they aren't as good.
And for a wedding 150-200 proofs is what most proof books are set up to hold. If you can't capture a whole wedding with 200 pics or less then you really need to work on your editing process post wedding.
