Skirmish in the Sky

... or just a cold front coming through. :D

Just one shot: yesterday evening we had the most jaw-dropping sunset. I am usually grumpy about nice sunsets when I'm home because my neighborhood, while nice, is not usually what I think of as photogenic. However this time I thought the sky was just too beautiful not to shoot. It really did look like this- all reds and orange on one side, dark steel clouds at the edges and behind me the sky was a clear cerulean blue (seen in the church windows):

It was pretty hot yesterday afternoon, and as nature promised I was shivering in my coat this morning. :lol3

Ok, so what secret filter/technique did you use to create such an awesome scenery? Just kidding. That's a good catch.thumb.gif Nothing beats natural light shows.

Wow, what an amazing sunset! I love how the steeple divides the sky into the blue and orange parts, and the low-angled composition giving the church a more dramatic appearance.

I'm glad you found a subject for that fantastic sunset!

And here I was thinking it was gonna be birds. Wow!

I've seen a similar situation once in my life, except everything was bathed in the orange light. It was wierd, like living in a sepia filtered world.

That is a winner right there Schmoo!clap.gif

    That is neat.
It reminds me of heaven and hell with the church steeple seperating the chasm.

Awesome sky. Seeing something like that, I probably would have dropped the camera and started running for the hills thinking that fire was falling from the sky. The fact that the separation between the cool and the fire falls in line with the steeple of a church is just chilling.

I have seen something similar. right around the time the tornado warning is issued. I never have a camera handy. and it always seems to go from that to instant rain without a warning.

    Awesome shot.

Fortunately other than a very light sprinkle while it was like this, there was no immediate rain. The sun went to bed as usual, tucked in with clouds, and it proceeded to drop about 20 degrees overnight. :D

Interestingly, Ann took a shot of the same sunset, but about 40 miles south. It looks the same, but also different!

I actually have a lot of photos of the clouds right behind the steeple from different angles, but I hadn't processed those.

Whoa! What an amazing sky! Something like that doesn't come along very often, that is for sure!
    You captured it well!
