Mapping questions

I have three questions about mapping, or geo-locating. First of all, let me tell you that I only started doing much with it in the past couple weeks. At first, I was only understanding the SmugMug half of it-- in other words, I thought the purpose was just to show where your pix were taken on the map. I didn't realize they could be found on the other end-- by users of a Google Map. Silly, I know. I only learned the other half by accident-- saw my photo & gallery link on a map from the other end. Here are my questions:

1. The photo I found "on the other end", bubble-marked on a Google map, is no longer there. It's still mapped here in SmugMug. But the little bubble-marker near Fairview, North Carolina disappeared over the weekend. I haven't changed anything that should affect this, or the gallery. I haven't yet searched for my other mapped photos, so can't tell you yet if this is only a fluke with that one. Will check soon.

2. Now that I saw one of my mapped photos from Google, I think I understand something I read somewhere on SmugMug a long time ago.... something about "links back to you". On my "links back", my name simply says "Anna Lisa". Is there a way to change this, if I want to? And/or can it only be changed by changing the name on my homepage? If possible, I think I would rather have my whole name (Anna Lisa Yoder) on the Google link, but only "Anna Lisa" on my homepage. I've searched all over, and cannot find the spot here where I read about "links back to you." If it's here, I'd appreciate a tip on where to find it.

3. Meanwhile (just about the time I discovered how mapping really works here), I also discovered Panoramio, the site which was recently acquired by Google Earth and from which one can get photos mapped onto GE. From what I understand, only the one million most popular photos from GE end up on Google Maps. (not entirely sure though) So there's not much "danger" right now of overlap for me, since it would take a long time to get popularity. However, am I right in thinking that there's the potential of overlap-- so if one of my GE photos ever gets popular & it's also mapped here, I should probably un-map it here, right? Oh the inane "problems" of the digital age!! Thanks for any help. (my site is www.winsomeworks.com or www.annalisa.smugmug.com )

    3.     1. I'm seeing this image near Fairview: http://annalisa.smugmug.com/gallery/4564085_8zdPs#269697311_Pzpb8
    I needed to zoom in to see it. There are a couple of other markers that were covering it.

    2. Yes & No :) The way you have your name to display on your homepage will be the same on the map marker. With some javascript you can change the way it displays on your homepage. So enable your first & last name to display on your homepage, then add the following to your footer javascript section to remove the last name:

    var objElement = document.getElementById("breadcrumb")
    if (objElement != null) {
    var str = new String(objElement.innerHTML);
    str = str.replace('>Anna Lisa Yoder<', '>Anna Lisa<');
    objElement.innerHTML = str;
    }

    3. I don't see any problems with the images on both Google Maps & Google Earth. I haven't done much tagging. You might need to check over on Google Earth or one of our 'taggers' might be able to help you.

    Still can't find my photos mapped
    Thanks for the info., Rich! I'll try messing with the code for my name when I can see straight. Will I see some of it present already, or am I just adding that whole bit? Hmmm, I can see all my photos mapped fine when I'm here on SmugMug. But no way, no how have I been able to see them (or anyone else's, for that matter) outside of here. I've tried going to Google Maps through I.E., & through Firefox. I've tried "Map" view, "Sat." view and "terrain" view. I've also tried getting there through the store's website ( www.troyerscountryamishblatz.net ) and click on "map" there and see only the store's own marker. Zoomed in, zoomed out-- no second bubble on the store, and none of my bubbles anywhere. Could there be some setting we've turned off or on, either on our computer or on Google Maps, to change this? As I said, it was all fine before this weekend. Before, I could see other photos near Fairview & lots around Chimney Rock, etc. Now, nothing. Strange. Must be a simple answer, but I'm not finding it.

    As a side note, on the store's own marker, we've tried to change the incorrect location that comes up when you click "more info." in the bubble, to no avail. My spouse is the webmaster. The location remains stuck on some Troyer road in Maryland. I guess we need mapping people for that. (just in case you saw that & wondered what was going on....)
