CC very welcomed.

I really need to get more comfy with family/posed shots...i enjoy following a child around capturing them and what they are doing rather than poses...

Sorry so many, i ended up with 81 proofs!

Here is one BW

When i am in PS i am happy with my BW, then when i get it outside of PS they seem so flat to me...any suggestions for me?

Very nice series - especially 3, 4 (Wow!) and 8.
Hopefully someone will offer good suggestions on the family/posed shots as I'm in the same camp as you - love to follow the little ones around and take natural shots of the family. I'm not very good at posing them though.
As for B/W, there are some filters/plugins you can get to approximate different types of B/W film for PS.
I use Lightroom myself and just found a good tutorial on b/w conversion in that program: http://lightroom-news.com/2007/08/24/tips-for-better-black-and-white-conversions/

Great shots. I especially like the last one.

Is the WB spot on to your eye?

I tend to like portraits a bit warm, but some of thes look just a tad blue. I use Elements and it has a feature "adjust color to skin tone." I love it. Otherwise, you might try pushing the white balance SLIGHTLY to the warm side and see if you like it.

    Again, these are great shots.

I like a bit more pop rather than warm...I have a fave photographer that does the same...i am not trying to copy her but I like to lean towards her direction! :) I still can't get it though! Some is a matter of taste...I'll look in to the blue though

"Pop" and warm tones are two very different things. I think by "Pop" you mean a bit of contrast and saturation boost.

I was thinking the same thing as josh about the white balance. You can see it in the whites of their eyes. They seem just a tad blue. But fantastic otherwise.

I use a tool from www.pictocolor.com to help me zero in on the color.

I went to that page. Nice shots. I am no expert on creating that look, but I think you need to add a bit of S shape to the curves-- a little high on top and a little low on the bottom to create more contrast.

The images are just TOO CUTE! I agree about the WB being on the cool side. Do you calibrate your monitor?

Just some CC. These are IMHO... so no worries. :D

    1. I like... nice profile. WB cool & BG slightly distrating.
    2. Same as 1, but too centered for my taste.
    3. The feet are cropped. WB
    4. Precsious! A touch of fill flash for some life in the eyes, and Ta-Da. WB
    5. Not sure about the angle. WB a little warm.
    6. Would work better if we could see what she was looking at.
    7. Would probably work better in Portrait and with some more breathing room.
    8. Would workbetter in Portrait with breathing room and WB.
    9. BG is slightly distracting and would probably work better in Landscape.
    10. WB and the feet are cut off.
    11. She is just TOO CUTE! Remeber to get on their level.

Hopefully I do not sound harsh.

Have you ever used an external calibrator? I use Spyder 2 from Datacolor to calibrate my monitor. http://spyder.datacolor.com/index_us.php

Kool! Once you are calibrated. Your monitor will open a new world to you! :) Prints will look the way they are supposed to.

I use ACR to convert RAW to jpg and use the WB eye dropper for color correction.

I am new to this forum and was going to post a new thread. What are the image posting rules. Image sizes and etc.? Silly question I know...

    Pictocolor
As I mentioned before, I use a Photoshop plugin from Pictocolor.com that was about $70. They also have a stand alone version. It just requires that you click on a few neutral color points and on the skin. I usually use the whites of the eyes for the neutral color. But here is the result on about 10 seconds of clicking. If for some reason you'd like me to remove this, just let me know. I struggled with color for quite some time, and while I'm still not perfect, this plugin makes me better and more consistent.

Shane that looks sooo much better.

In other words: listen to him, BriShay, he knows what he is talking about.
(I don't use elements, so I don't have a clue about that anyway)

Also, if you can start shooting Raw and get a good Raw conversion program (I don't think PSE 7 has it) it will make life so much easier to get your white balance adjusted. Seriously it is just a slide here and a tweak there and you got it.

I love your photos- and with a little more processing work they are going to be super!

Also, check out the skin tone tutorial on the sticky at the top of the people thread. Skin tones are made quite understandable and easy to monitor in a quick 1 page read.
