Can I prevent copying pictures?

Assuming that my gallery is public and set to show Original size, is there any way to prevent viewers of an original size photo from right clicking and copying an image file for their use?

Hi Al, image protection features are pro features on SmugMug: http://www.smugmug.com/pro

right click protection, watermarking are among the things that pros can do to protect.

    Does this help?

Keep in mind that while useful, the right-click protection is simply a speed bump. Because of that, most of us restrict access to the originals & only allow water-marked reduced-size images to be viewed. If it's viewable on the web and the thief is determined enough, they can copy the image.

Hi, Andy. Just a note that I have reviewed the Pro account benefits and been convinced of the value of the extras. So will probably upgrade soon as I develop my site "personality". Also, thanks much to your team for the excellent assistance and response. Have a good day!

I read this, and I'm a Pro user but this isn't what I want to do. I've been able to go to any web site and use snag it to get a picture, any size and clear off the watermark to prove to a buddy of mine that it can be done.

I want to figure out how to prevent that from happening and I've seen it. I've seen it where you can't right click, or cntrl, alt delete or use snag it to copy a picture. How do I do that?

If an image can be displayed on screen, you cannot prevent someone from taking it. Worst case, they can always use any screen capture program. Show me any browser web site that you think prevents theft and I'll show you that I can get the image.

Your best bet is to limit the max display size to something like XL and put a good, semi-transparent watermark on the image.

If you really don't want anyone to steal it, then put it in a password protected gallery and only give the password to people you trust.
