What would be a good online source or two for ID-ing Bugs, Spiders and other insects?

I have some good books for birds, flowers and other things of nature.

    Bug ID website
    Don,
This is the best site I have found. You can also email them a picture and they will id it for you. Good luck with your quest.

I tend to use some general bug books (for the UK) and then use some specialist sites to help with ID if I need it.
    Another general site is http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740

For general insect IDs in the UK http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/forums/

For flies in particular (mainly Europe but do take them from anywhere) http://www.diptera.info/news.php

There are numerous smaller specialist sites around.

Thanks Brian. I'll pass those to a Londoner friend of mine fond of your work.

Hi Don there is an excellent book called...

The Audubon Society Book of Insects

It is nicely illustrated with hundreds of photos, and information,
covering most beetles, spiders, catapillars, butterflies, flies, ticks, wasps,
bees etc... I picked it up in USA two years ago and use it a lot.

It is said that a bird book that uses illustrations rather than photographs is much better as an i.d. book. I assume this would be the same for 'bug' books?
