Jobo PhotoGPS

Hey! I'm trying to track down a phantom product (at least so far).
I read today about the Jobo PhotoGPS, an accessory for your hot shoe that records GPS coordinates for each shot. I have found a few press releases online that suggest it was released in 2007, but there's nothing available on
a) the Jobo website
b) B and H
c) Amazon.
Has anyone else heard of this? Or are the editors at the magazine where I read about this dreaming?

I was reading it's supposed to be available this June. It is not available yet.
It's pretty big. I think given the tools, that a handheld GPS may make more sense, as you can sync it as well as you can the Jobo PhotoGPS.
a hand held GPS and some of the free software that's already available is
almost a better solution. Especially since you can also use your GPS for
navigation (which you cannot do with this product).
I guess I'm a little confused. I thought the Jobo unit would add GPS data automatically, or almost automatically, to shots once you imported them into the computer. Are there other devices that can match locations with shots automatically?
Thanks!
Unless it comes in-camera, not really. But the process of melding the data
is actually not that difficult. You need to be sure the time is sync'ed between
the GPS and camera for it to work correctly. And be sure you're saving your
track as you shoot. Really, once you get set up, not that bad.
There's another company that's not to market yet that has something that
adds part of the data to the EXIF then when you upload, you run a tool
that converts it to location data.

starting to gather steam. I also think you'll have to subscribe to some sort of
service to convert the satellite's ephemeris data to actual coordinates. The
reason I believe this might be the case is two fold. Electronics are easier to
design and build and it's that much faster to turn those electronics on and
gather the ephemeris data than it is to provide a full function GPS unit. Not
to mention it's easier on the power budget.
Just wanted to throw my thoughts in here.
I have a little Garmin eTrex Venture That plus $100 bucks mapping software has given me a hiking tool, in car navigation, Geocaching fun, and a geocoder - lots of software out there(Mac and Windows) to sync the geo data into your pics. And then of course fun to display on the smugmug maps.
Happy to answer any questions anyone has with regard to GPS and Geocoding

Tobias, this does help. I took a minute and checked out your SM page. I love the geo-tracking you have implemented.
I do have a question. I've just bought a Garmin Forerunner 405 to track my runs. That sort of took all the $ I had for a GPS device. Is there any way to use data from that to geocode photos?
Thanks again--and great shots.
