Eastern Phoebe

While not an exotic species by any means, this one was kind enough to give me a nice perch. I visited this ranch for its bird blinds and set-ups, but ironically this image is not from any blind. It is getting the shot the old fashioned way. :D It was shot at dusk in shadows and low light.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Mike. I guess it felt safe because I was actually shooting through the square mesh of the metal fence.

They are relatively easy to find around here especially in spring and summer but they are here year-round. They like to hang out low in trees near a water source. Thanks for the comments.

Thanks Ric. And I completely agree. When a small and fast one comes in range, there is usually more cussing that congratulatory pride in oneself. :D

Beautiful capture! I love the Phoebes we have here on the West Coast....they are actually fairly accessible as they like to perch low and don't seem particularly fearful of humans. Good thing, because they are such small birds I would never be able to get close enough with a 300 lens! :D

Thanks Jeff and saurora. It certainly did not seem fearful of me as kept getting closer and closer. It allowed some 25 to 30 frames before I just left the area. It tired me out first. rolleyes1.gif
