I've been eager to post photos with my new camera (that all of you helped me purchase). I had a great opportunity to really break it in this weekend. I went to Mexico on a missions trip with a group middle school students.

I'm still learning about processing the photos, so you're welcome to add some comments and criticism.

    congrats on the new purchase.

Those are moving pictures and as such, hard to be too critical.

I don't know that you could do anything in this case, but I find it almost impossible to capture great people shots in direct sunlight. The first one is great. some of the direct sunlight shots, from a photographers point of view. . . it is just a hard situation to take great photos.

Yeah, I struggled with the light. I took a lot of very bad pictures. So what are your real thoughts on these? Give me the whipping post version. Short of carrying around a reflector to shade all of my subjects, is there anything I could have done differently with the exposure to get better results?

I love the shots, I wouldn't change a thing. The lighting helps tell a story for each photo to me, i mean, you were in Mexico! (Especially in #2, it gives it something, it is natural...it is natural light, I like it!) FOr the type of photos these are I wouldn't change anything if it were me.

If you can get the sun directly behind the subject, then use a flash to fill, or meter for the face, (or just dial up the metering quite a bit) you don't get those harsh shadows.

Thank you for the encouragement, BriShay. I really had a good time devoting the weekend to capturing that trip with my new equipment.

And Thank you, Josh for the advice. I was trying to use the little bit of fill light that I could get from my on-camera flash since I won't be able to spend money on a good flash for a while. It worked in some places and failed in others.

You did a good job on the B&W conversions. Looks like you are breaking the new camera in well. :)
