Over the last three weeks I've seen this happen. Can you guys or gals shed some light on what possibly could cause this?

What camera, card, card reader, download software, OS, Photoshop or Lightroom?

Any or all of this info will help make a diagnosis. When this has been brought up before on The Adobe LR User to User, IIRC, it was download related to a Direct connect vs Card reader or such.

I've had a similar thing happen with my Nikon D2x. I have no idea what caused it but I haven't seen it in a few months now. When it happened to me I was using Transcend cards and have since started using sandisk as my main cards. It may have something to do with the card brand but I don't really know for sure. headscratch.gif

Here is an example of what I would get. . .

To me it seems like something going wrong when the image is being written or read.
If you see this in the LCD of the camera, then I suspect that there may have been an error while it was being written. If the image is ok on the camera's LCD but you see this when uploading on the computer, then maybe the card reader.

Try reformating your memory card in the camera, that will clear any artefact which are stuck on the card which maybe causing the problem.

    I have had this problem.
By any chance are you downloading your images to an external hard drive?
    Are these shot in Raw?
    Try opening them with DPP
Once I switched back to storing my files on a internal drive, the problem has not happened.

In a case like this I would suspect a bad drive cable. The fact of downloading to store on an External Drive should not be, in itself, the cause.

What are the odds of having 3 different externals and 3 cables being bad?

Not so good. You hadn't said. I have images on three different externals and no problem. Still suspect that as not the reason, but some other factor.
