Pic links and page reloads - is there an easier way?

Sorry for all the questions guys and gals......trying to wrap my head around the functionality of the site....

My main use of the site is to host images for family and pictures that I post in forums....

The first part was easy, nice interface.........

The second part not so easy.....
I like to have multiple pictures in a post and when I draft a long post with lots of pictures I do it in a text editor first (spelling etc) and then paste that into a forum post......
For picasa which is not great for this but does allow a slightly easier way than I can figure out with smugmug.
In picasa I go to the first image and then move through the images 1 by 1 and then select the image link from the same page. This gets pasted into my post.
etc etc until I am done, no returning to full gallery view or moving to any other pages to accomplish this.

Now I am trying it on smugmug and I am sure there has to be a better way I am not aware of yet....

So I go to the gallery of choice, select an image, so far the steps are the same........ Then I have to go to the share button which opens a new page and displays the links for the various sizes etc, then I go back to the image and move to the next one and again have to open the share page to get the link.
With one of the main feature of image hosting is there an easier way I am missing, one that does not make me jump to different pages?

If not I guess I should head over to feature request?

13 days left on my trial and I want to make sure this is going to be a good fit. I like all the features but I need some of this I guess what I consider base functionality to be there for me to really take advantage of this place.

Thanks for the help so far, it has been great!

Open up the lightbox, the image ID and key are near the end of the URI in the address window <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif" border="0" alt="" > You can use the arrow keys to flick through the images.

copy one direct link and paste the new numbers, like this:
    www.smugmug.com/photos/<imageID>_<imageKey>-<imageSize>.jpg

for instance, in the example above it would be
    www.smugmug.com/photos/274262405_ZMctQ-L.jpg

    Thanks for the reply.
That works but is quite labor intensive to change word here delete portions of url there.
I curently use picasa (sorry) and they allow the link from the window you are viewing the image without opening a new screen. I still have to delete a portion of the url to work as an embeded picture in a post but it is much easier than this solution.
What would be wonderful is a pure thumbnail page that allows multiple selections then submit that and a page with the thumnail and the url is presented. A radio button with auto refresh for the size would be a neat feature. Sure you would need 2 windows open to jump between for the cut and paste, but when drafting a large forum post with multiple images it would be worth it. ne_nau.gif

    Hey AngryScot,

Seems like we've been getting asked for this a lot lately. On one of my other forums, advrider.com, people post lots of pics in forums and really want a nice solution to this. We've been eyeing Photobucket's solution and it looks pretty good, but how do you choose which image size to embed? I suppose we could do a page of thumbs with a link under each and a size chooser near the top of the page.

Another scheme might be to do what we do with the EXIF window. Put a floating window that stays with you as you navigate through your gallery so it's always there to copy links when you need it.

    AngryScot,

I do similar to Ivar, but easier. I get the same photo number, but I use TextExpander to expand it into a useable URL. Once I have the image in my clipboard, all i have to do is go to the post and type 'smimg' (I made that up) and the full URL with the proper photo number is inserted. Easy peasy!

    Hi Baldy

adv guy too :D, hence the need for large photo based ride reports! thumb.gif
I am no web developer so please excuse my ignorance..
The photobucket is like the fisherprice version
I think the sm version would be as lovely as the rest of the pages to navigate etc...... [suck up : unloading...........]

Your thought of a blanket size option at the top of the page is great, users could select the size then copy/paste the url's from the link boxes of the selected images for a given size, then change the size and go and grab the images of that size for the same cut/paste operation. A select all and select none would be required I would think, multiple selctions moving to your EXIF window would be a neat feature.

    something like this?
You select the images size and all the link boxes are updated (I only did a couple of the options to save ps time)
the exif window is updated with all the images selected for the given size.
Or users could just grab the link for the boxes of choice. a reset or unselct button would be useful if doing links to different sizes in same post.
This is my prefered method so I can have a window with the thumbs and links and my post on the other so I can grab and drop the links within the post as needed and don't have to recall the image name.

    does that make sense?

Thanks for looking into this, already got more than my $$ worth! clap.gif

Okay, that was a low blow. Here I am slaving over a hot computer working out gnarly UI issues and you're cavorting around at Warped on your bike. Treadless sent me and invite and a shirt, which I've been wearing, but did I get to go, noooooo....

Thanks for your mockup and the feedback! Noodling... headscratch.gif

The other thing we should have is the slideshow embed code. Right now you have to go to the wiki and do some geeky stuff to embed.
