I started this post with the intention of telling you that I still preferred the dark black background vs. the dark grey. But, when I went to do a side-by-side comparison, I changed my mind. So, thumb.gif on the new background color. It's subtle, but it makes things seem a bit more polished.

I'm confused, though, about the color of the title text on the home page. In Baldy's screen shots, titles are white. In the sample andytest1 homepage, they're green. Which is correct?

I personally feel there should be a little color in the text, but I think the current green is too much. Funny thing is, in the screen shots that Baldy posted of the current theme, on my monitor, the green is a little desaturated compared to the real SmugMug green (it looks like this is due to dithering/down-rez issues) and I like it better than either the current green or the white. So, my suggestion is try a more subdued green. (I'm still partial to the original SmugMug blue you used when I first signed up :D)

Overall, I think these are positive changes. I really like the fonts.

I think the new theme looks great, definitely a nice improvement. I'll be tempted to switch my site over to it... so when is it going live? mwink.gif

I hadn't noticed before, but links aren't consistently styled. On the gallery page, I see plain-text links (in the breadcrumbs and show/hide comments), underlined links (openID names in comments), underlined and greyed links (keywords). That's 3 ways of representing a link on the same page.

I find especially in reading the comments in the new style where you have white/grey/white (Andy/wrote about this/photo...) text alternating, I can't tell which is a link. In fact, since none are underlined or blue, I have to hunt around to figure out what's clickable on the page.

This isn't a problem for me because I've been here long enough to know the UI really well, but new users might get confused. Or not--maybe it works, since this is a photo site and not a text site. Just something to think about while you're revising.

I'm glad to see less green though. :)

The text does look a bit strange, but I really like the little frames around the pics thumb.gif

    Nice, I like it! :)

This is a little weird though, you have "Featured Galleries" in caps, but "gallery categories" and others are lowercase.

So that one looks good, but now the "most popular" text is lowercase. headscratch.gif

what color is used for the main background? I can't find it in the css to save my life. I'm no css expert.

    **nevermind, I think I got it: #161616?**

Thanks for pointing me to this thread Andy.

My first impression was I like the lower case section titles... But the more I look at it, I don't really care one way or the other. I do now need to change some custom titles I have in lowercase to capitalized to match the new defaults.

I just noticed that "friends & family" in visitor view is still lowercase (server side caching?). In owner view it is properly capitalized.

Yes, caching - if you hide the box to your control panel, then show it again, it'll be capped thumb.gif

That did it. I also noticed I needed to do the same for most popular, featured and gallery categories. Thanks.

    Hi,
since my customization was based on the black background, I don´t like the change, since it affects my own site design. I would prefer a system were nothing is changed from outside except I want it to be different. It is not professional to notice by pure luck that my site design has changed. I´m quite sure with the help of the team the changes can be fixed very fast, but as written above, there should be no changes on existant and ready customized web sites.

(here is my complaint in the support forum: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=92864)
    cheers,

Arrrg! I'm curling into the fetal position! :D

Say If I can't get used to the new default, is there anyway to go back to the old theme for the home page & galleries?

I think I got attached to the green.mwink.gif

Could someone tell me what the new background color is for smugmug default? I can't figure out how to find that information using the FF web developer tool.

    Thanks!
