We could parlay that pool idea into an actual futures exchange. What Andy will buy next; what Andy will sell next; what Andy will hold on to, and for how long. Gotta be lots of money to be made in this sort of speculation. Andy would be barred from trading or buying a seat, of course.

i love the idea. guys in my office are already doing that with ipods, laptops and other stuff that i flip just as fast as my lens collection.
btw: david... that quote was thos. watson, my old man was his "camerlengo" for several years as he climbed the corporate ladder at ibm.. i love the quote!
Jeepers, I saw hatam's for sale and thought it a big, honking thing. I'd love to see you make some piccies with it, tho. I just couldn't figure out how I'd take advantage of it.

well, trigger pulled. i bought it from chamcamera via ebay. this is a guy that finds them in asia, and has been selling them about 3 or 4 a month on ebay... an honest seller, loads of referrals and happy clients.
i guess i'll have something new to try out in about a week :uhoh
Congratulations! So this is for birding? Did you consider a 300 f2.8 or a 400 f2.8?
i considered it becuase is so dayum fast and sharp. seems to be universally loved - great at 200mm for outdoor portraits, sports heck even creative landscaping... indoors for sports like hockey and bball in a big gym, or gymnastics, or swimming, it's killer.
sure, it'll be great for birding, i'll slap a tc on it (heck, maybe 2!)and still have fast glass and reach.
no, i didn't consider the 300 f/1.8 or the 400 f/2.8, because to me, they are more limited, due to their length. if i were doing tons and tons of birding i'd go that route. those lenses are excellent btw!
finally - they aren't making any more of these, so it's a good investment. which means, if i need/want to sell it, there'll be lots of willing buyers

I wanted that lens but am still worrioed about sending money overseas like that. Well when Andy tires of it I can be sure to get it that way.
i'm actually going to use the the escrow service but i've spoken to a bunch of folks that wired money - no probs. this guy chamcamera is a legit legend ...

Congrats and it shore looks sweet (and soooooo white....lol)

No bird can hide now. What is that, an f/1.2???? Or is that a picture of the Hubble?

Lucky dog. We only need a pool if we think you will sell it soon.

the cool thing:
one user reports really great results with tcs...
200 f/1.8
200 f/1.8 + 1.4tc = 280 f/2.5
200 f/1.8 + 2xtc = 400 f/3.5
200 f/1.8 + both tcs stacked = 560mm f/5
owners i've email conversed with say it's dayum sharp even with the 2x... one guy routinely uses it with a stacked 1.4 and 2x!

Going to bring to Yosemite? Between us, I think we have a good
chunk of the super-tele set.
Maybe we can convince PF to get a 600?

Too big - I'm going to stick with my 300 + 2x - so far, it has seemed to work for me and it is much smaller, lighter, and PAID FOR!
