I think the photo needs more light. And better managed light. Mom is in the shadows, and then in the BW she looks grey and muddy.

Still don't see anything. I know you have posted pics before, Janis, so I'm not sure what the problem is. But you might just review the tutorial steps to make sure you haven't forgotten something.

Janis... external links must be "on" to have photos show up when you are linking them from your website.

I turned ext links on in your gallery settings for this gallery.

Muddy top tones aside, I think this is a lovely capture.

It seems to me that the main issue of the composition are the clasping and supporting hands of the mother. The color/tone issue of the face combine with the empty upper corner allow a lot of the tension of this to sort of drain out.

Consider cropping this down to alleviate both of these problems at once.

Number 1 would be my favorite if you could just lighten up the left side of the mother's face a bit.

I agree with Richard... if you could lighten up the mothers face it would be helpful.

well, although I agree about her being in the shadows, I personally like the original crop better, because the mother is an important aspect of the photo, and cropping her off at her nose doesn't help the photo.
    Thanks,
