Shoes are very rare there, mostly flip-flops. It is too hot and humid.
This picture was taken in Nong Khiauw a river town in the North; the temperature does get down to 40 at night during winter but people essentially ignore the weather. They wash in steams or from unheated water taps.
I spent 4+ weeks in northern Laos and hope to go back next January/February.
