Those pics are out-of-this-world, well, at least the land world anyway. How do you maintain your position and focus in a moving ocean?

Every aspect of these images, lighting, framing, subjects, tropical underwater setting (being in said tropical underwater setting), makes me very jealous...

    Bravo!

:jawdrop I have never seen under water macro. This is simply awesome. I would love to see your gear. What do you use to brace yourself and equipment to get such crisp pictures?

Thanks to everyone for all of the nice comments!!! :D

    These shots were all shot with a Nikon D70, although I'm now shooting a D300. Shots 2&3 were with a 105mm and #1 was with a 60mm and a 2x TC.

My camera is housed in an Ikelite housing with 2 Ikelite ds125 strobes.

Yes, dealing with the surge can sometimes be a challenge but not as much as one would expect.

    Thanks again!!!
    Aloha!

That's a common question but the truth is, I have never used the live view on that camera since the 1st day when I was playing with the bells and whistles and put it in the mode to snap a couple shots of my couch.

It really isn't something I cared about and I haven't found a use for it yet. Less noise, more pixels and better focus were my reasons for the upgrade and they have been great.

Ditto what dadwtwins had to say, how do you brace your self? I use to teach SCUBA and have spent way more then my share of time under water.
I am sure the lighting, movement and partials in the water have to be difficult to over come. Great Job… got me thinking…. But then I checked into the cost of the gear! MM

    A two-light rig?

Nikonos or housed? (looks like a housed camera shot)

    Very well done.

When you teach classes do you explain that a boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money and u/w photography is a large pail of camera gear you have to toss into that hole every year or two?

    Thanks!

    I described my system above.

I don't think one needs a boat to do underwater photography - I sure don't.

Underwater camera equipment is no more expensive than say good bird lenses or studio equipment. Believe me, I'm not a rich man.
