I already own a Promaster 6600 bought back in the early nineties, but I'm looking for something a little more flexible\universal.

Here's what I want to do:

1. Macro. So I need something that has a low minimum heigth.

2. Outdoor wildlife, especially good for movement, like BIFs and running deer. Since I can't afford the IS series of Canon telephotos, I'm going to have to buy something witout IS, Canon or Sigma. MAximum heigth to match my 6 foot heigth.

3. Light and quick to move, as in fold and carry when outdoors.

4. Suggested heads for greatest versitality.

Thanks.

Take a look at the Bogen/Manfrotto's. Though the center column is
longer, it can also be mounted horizontanlly on some models making for
a versatile tripod. Gitzo have similar mounts.

What you do want is something that will match height without extending
the column much. Both Bogen/Gitzo offer tripods in this range.
