On the way to the Mt.Vernon, WA tulip festival we ran across a few snowgeese. My first attempt at some BIF photos. The geese hung around so after reviewing my first round of failures, I made some adjustments to technique and did a little better the next day.

Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed looking. In that last shot I caught it just as the flock started to get up. A wave came across the field towards me as the flock took flight. Notice all of the birds on the ground have their heads up looking in the same direction, presumably at whatever made them fly.

Glad you enjoyed the images. They were sure fun to capture. Took a while to come up with a couple that depicted the shear numbers. Took several shots of a sea of tens of thousands feeding on the ground but it just didn't work. Finally got the shots of them swarming in the air. Thanks for commenting.

That last shot is just amazing. I would have loved to be there and see that with my own 2. eek7.gifclap

    Any idea what spooked them?

Thanks for the comments and glad people enjoy seeing the images. The geese were flushed by another person who stopped and decided to walk out into the field for a better look (don't know what they were thinking headscratch.gif ). The amount of noise when they are flying is incredible, both from their wings and from several thousand honking at the same time. It was a blast :D

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks for commenting. Yes that was one big bunch of birds. It was quite hazardous duty photographing them when the flock flew overhead, lightening themselves as they went eek7.gif
