Know anything about old teleconverters?

I have run across what is marked as P&B Vivitar Auto 2X Tele Converter. The seller describes as a 9 ½ quality wise in their opinion. This is a M42 thread. Seller says it is from the 1980's. I have a D60 that I use an old Vivitar 200mm M42 (from the mid 1970's) on with an adapter and am happy with. There are just a very few times that I would like extra length so don’t really want to spend any more than I have to to get something useable for personal pictures.

    I have one of these-it came as a component of a larger package purchase. I tried it out on a few M42 telephotos I had and was not impressed. The image was way too soft--which I think is pretty typical of older TCs.
