The Snobby GBH

Hi you'll

I'm going to be out of action for the next couple of days so I figured I would share some behind the scenes look at a shoot prep.

We normally see Great Blue Herons looking like this
17012909-L.jpg

actually they are kind of scruffy, I mean like they live in a swamp you know
17012906-L.jpg

fortunately they will clean themselves up before a shoot if you throw them a few fish. It starts with a good shaking out
18848207-L.jpg

then some detail work
18848205-L.jpg

then you got to walk it out a bit and give it another shake
18848208-L.jpg

in the end he's looking like the snobby GBH we all know and love but look at the price he pays. His poor old bill has feathers all over it. He'll be tasting feathers with every fish tonight. It ain't easy.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

That is great, Harry! I love the swamp bird shots.......... You gettin ready to show off your rookery again?

I think I might as well wait til next week to post my egret shots. You and I are the only ones who still appreciate these GREAT birds.

You know they are all nesting. I expect babies all over the place. The birds we saw yesterday were either sitting on nests or making nests. But I don't think anyone is really interested in that. I might PM shots of the babies to you.rolleyes1.gif

I will miss you, we do keep up the neighborhood, after all.

They're all great, but the last one, all pimped up is excellent.
(edit: actually they are all excellent now that I look back.)
    Great story line.
I just got back from pedaling around the lake and not one big
bird was seen. Guess they're not here yet.
    Thanks for the laugh,

    Hey Ginger,

Thanks for the kind words and I can't wait to see your egret shots.

I wouldn't be paying too much attention to Andy (nobody really does you know). He was the one who extended Egret Fest you might recall. The lad gets confused with changing cameras every month and buying and selling lenses. He just gets turned around and forgets which direction he's going in. rolleyes1.gif

Nice ones Harry thumb.gifthumb.gif You definitely got some "not ready for primetime" shots of the GBH (You didn't take my picture, did you? My feathers are such a mess....lol) As always, your narrative was humorous and helped set the stage for the viewer clap.gifclap.gif

Now get to work on those Porta-potty shots :lol

    Thanks for sharing,

    Hey Allen,

I'm glad you enjoyed it because I had a good time putting it together. Sorry you couldn't find any big ones today. I've known that feeling a few times myself.

Thanks Jeff. The first two shots were with the D100 and the rest were with the D2H. The D2H is my main gun now.

    Hey Dee,

Its a good thing I'm retired because it usually takes a while to catch them doing something interesting. Usually they either just stand there or fly away. Thanks.
