Hi Y’all,

As you probably know, I have been concerned with the impact of Florida’s uncontrolled development on the environment and the area’s wildlife. I’ve been looking for a way to effectively use photography as a means to help protect our wildlife.

Currently I’m working on setting up a photograph exhibit showing the natural beauty we are in danger of losing forever. The exhibit, I hope, will educate its viewers about our area’s wildlife and raise funds to protect the wildlife and their habitats. The proceeds of the exhibit will go equally to establishing an environmental scholarship at the University of Central Florida and to the MINWR or one of the areas’s groups maintaining our wetlands or wildlife. The scholarship is being sponsored by the Environmental Committee of the Brevard Democratic Executive Committee. All of the raised funds will go towards environmental causes and not one cent will be used for partisan political purposes. We will also be speaking against NASA’s current plans to build a commercial launch site that could close the MINWR.

What I’m requesting of you is the donation of one image that was taken in Brevard County (i.e. MINWR, the Viera Wetlands). The donation would be a non-exclusive release for me to use it in the exhibit and to sell a print of the image for the sole purpose of raising funds for environmental groups in Brevard County.

Currently we are planning to hold the exhibit/luncheon at the Dixie Crossroads Restaurant in Titusville. If the response to this initial event is positive I hope to “take it on the road” to other area groups, libraries, schools, etc. If any other area photographers want to join me in forming a committee I would welcome your participation in this hopefully ongoing campaign.

If you wish to donate an image, E-mail me your permission to use your image. I will send to you the website address and log on information where you can upload your donation. Smugmug has graciously donated a professional account to us for this purpose. Along with your donation please include your website address and any other contact info you wish to have attached to your donation when it’s being exhibited.

Thank you.
Harry

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

You can have anything of mine! I have some pretty good shots from the Orlando bird rehab center (that may apply) and a very few from MI.

Let me know when the lunch is, I would love to attend!

PS: My skills are humble compared to yours. But, having more of us in might make a differance!
It is the purpose of life that each of us strives to become actually what he is potentially. We should be obsessed with stretching towards that goal through the world we inhabit.

Thanks Nick. Whenever you have the time E-mail me your permission to use the image(s) you wish to donate. Also include in the e-mail any info such as your website, etc that you want attached to the photo when its exhibited. I will e-mail you back the address; log in info; and gallery password for the Smugmug site.

You then can upload (full size please) the image(s) you wish to donate. I will then print-out the images donated to the site for the show from Smugmug. Caption your photo after the upload with your name.

Nice to see someone willing to do something to protect what so many take for granted and too many that care less.

Obviously, I don't have any photos to contribute, but I would be happy to purchase from the contributions.

Educating the locals is extremely important.....but money is also very important. I would hope you are planning online viewing and a purchase option.

What a great idea Harry. I have nothing from the area but I may have friends that have some underwater stuff from there. I will send out an email.

I hope you keep us posted here as to how it goes and I may be picking you brain when it's over. My underwater photo club would like to do something similar here on Maui.
    Aloha!

Thanks Z and I will post the date and all other details once we have them nailed down. I'm trying to have all the images be of wildlife in Brevard County. Any captures from the Viera Wetlands, MINWR, the Orlando Wetlands, etc would be good.

Things are moving along. I was just interviewed by a reporter/photographer from Florida Today. They will be doing a story about the exhibit with pictures that will run on the day of the exhibit.

Your limpkin chicks capture is at Southern Photo getting matted for the exhibit while we "speak". I also sent your eagle in flight shot to the reporter for the story in Florida Today so your timing was OK.
