I think this is a spectacular shot. Everything is perfectly unambiguous and articulated: who the shot is of while showing what he is doing. It's like a portrait in context, if that makes sense. The fore and back OOF is awesome. Was this acomplished just by wide aperture?

Thanks for the kind words. It is mostly Photoshop. Below is the original. the steps were:
Create an circle around dustin
feather it a bunch--240 or so
inverse
layer via copy
desaturate a bit
blur a bit--radial blur in this case
darken just a bit with levels.
I think I sharpened the original layer a bit 100%, 1 px or something like that
