I had dipped the blu-tac in a water/sugar solution 1½hr before hand, and then waited for the bluebottle to land on it. I wanted the proboscis but the fecker never stuck it out...

They were shot in natural light kind of, but I had the onboard flash set to -1 1/3 with a diffuser too
