Baclayon on Bohol Island
Baclayon is a quaint town near to the bridge crossing to Panglao Island. There are a some historically
interesting points such as the Baclayon Church, shown below and on the way a marker celebrating the
"Blood Compact" between Legaspi and Datu Sikatuna of Bool. We did not investigate before we went,
a cardinal sin when touring, which is why there are no photos of the Blood Compact Monument and no
photos of the inside of the church. We will correct that oversight on the next trip. There is plenty more
to see in any case, including waterfalls, caves, more resort areas, etc. We will be going back soon.
Some 200 native slave laborers built the church using coral, which they cut into blocks. Bamboo
was used to move and lift the stones, and the white of a million eggs was used as the cement.
There is a dungeon in the basement. Religion was pretty serious in those days.
The bell was added in the early 1800s

When the rain started we went to the local market.
The lesser sellers just use the ground and tarps.
Laundry soap, Matches, Garlic, Ginger, etc
Raw tobaco and quite the character selling it. It brought back memories of when I picked tobacco as a child.
