School Dance Portaits...

I've been hired by a bunch of rebellious high schoolers who are hosting a "MORP", who didn't think the current facilitiy their school used was "good enough" --- So they're boycotting the school's prom and renting out the Hyatt Ball Room.... (which is $50 or so more expensive for each student to attend...)

Anyways, I'm looking for advice on how I could go about shooting group / portait shots at this event... I'm not really sure how to go about doing this.

What are some key points to remember while shooting?

(or can anyone point me to a tutorial?)

Here is my equipment list:
Camera:
- Nikon D300 x 1
- Nikon D70s x 1

Lenses:
- Nikkor 18-70mm 1:3.5-4.5G ED (the lense that came with the D70s)
- Nikkor 80-200mm 1:2.8 D (older lense, but works)

Strobe:
- Nikon SB-800

Also, I recently bought these lights (because the storbes are too expensive) X2:
