Flashless

My SB600 decided to stop working. Replaced the batteries, twice, and nothing, nada, zero.

I've had no previous trouble with the unit. It has not been damaged in any way. It just stopped working.

Anyone else ever experience this?

    Contacts...
Have you ensured that the battery contacts of the flash unit are free of corrosion?

    does it power on?
if so, do you hear the high pitch sound made by it charging the capicitor?

if it powers on but doesn't charge, you probably have a blown flash tube.

if it does not power on at all, you either have crud on your contacts (albeit unlikely) or your controller board needs replacing.

unfortunately, neither is a cheap fix. expect to drop about $150 (USD) for either repair. i've had both happen to an sb-800.
