Wow. I hope you were using a long lens. I like the pose of the sidewinder. I think in your photo editor you could mask the sidewinder then with curves lessen the brightness of the surrounding area while increasing the contrast on the sidewinder to bring out some nice detail in it.
Lean and mean, unlike our Eastern ones, which tend to have more girth!
Lovely capture. Though, for my taste, a bit more local contrast to POP the snake on the gravel. It is subject in the image.

Thanks for all the comments. This sidewinder was found on a paved road. Me and some co-workers rushed out to it. The Depth of Field is not desirable, but hey....a 300mm lens at about 6 feet is close enough. I did take some others photos with different lenses but the background is cluttered with scared co-workers.

Quick and Dirty...Mask, Contrast, Curves. Oh and a little sharpen.
