Last weekend I rented the Canon 24mm f/1.4 L lens. This was the last lens I wanted to rent before making my decision on what lenses to purchase next. The 24L pretty much made up my mind and I’ve decided to go with that and the 35L. I get them today in the mail so I’m pretty excited. Going to have a lot more options in my camera bag now so look for new types of shots from me, a lot more wide shots that’s for sure :). I have a 24-70mm lens so I already have that range but I find I’m not as happy with shots from my zoom lenses compared to primes. I find primes to be much sharper in image quality, have better colors, better bokeh (blurring in the background), and with the L lenses almost give you this 3D like quality to the photos (which probably is in part to the bokeh).

To try out the lens I shot with Liam on Saturday. We went up to Powell Butte in Portland. It’s a little bit of a drive but it’s definitely worth it. It’s an amazing place to take photos. Below are a couple photos from the shoot:

I've rented this lens before and I was quite happy with it. I like the second and third images here. I think the shadows in the first image look a little muddy and flat.

yes, it's a pretty awesome lens. As for the first image that's kind of the look I was going for. I've found out though that on some monitors it doesn't look so great while it looks great on my calibrated monitor. Hard to make things look good for every monitor. ne_nau.gif

I'm also on two calibrated monitors. Have you printed it? If so how does it look in print?

#3 is really nice! I've not used this lens, but it looks awesome and definitely has that L quality about it. I have the 35 f/1.4L and love it. I'm seeing the same dull/flatness in #1 that Nick is seeing.
