Its Spring and Time for New Lives....

Nightingale was about to take down our old Christmas wreath that has faded and was looking pretty bad, when she realized it had been inhabited by a breeding pair of house wrens. The nest originally held four eggs, but only two chicks remain. Life is hard on small birds. The nest is back inside the wreath so far that I could not get a 100mm macro lens in for a look, when I realized a G9 might just work.

The chicks grow very quickly. I think their heads are now larger than the eggs were a few weeks ago.

nice close up shots, i agree, life is very hard on the young birds this time of year, i live here in western ny, and i have saved 3 little ones already ( as i do every year) i just put them back in their nests usually, such innocent and fragile little critters
