After a recent rash of stock car racing posts, I figured I would get into the mix. I noticed there was a lot of discussion about showing motion, lighting, and which lenses to use, in which a few I have chimed in, so I wanted to share some of my better shots. I also wanted to touch on something I think makes big difference in composition. The track(s) I shoot at all run dry slick. It really is an asphalt type race; not a lot of car action. It also makes it very difficult for me as there is no protection from the cars on the track and where I stand. There are a few tractor tires but nothing to really slow the cars down. I find it very hard to get into a good position to get a really good shot.
These are from 3 May on an overcast evening/night. I shot all of these using my new 85mm 1.8 that I purchased a couple of weeks ago. These are all without a flash. The day shot is 1/100 f 4.0 ISO 200. The rest are all at 1/80 f 1.8-2.0 ISO 400.
As always, looking for C/C and/or comments on how to get into better postions.
